Going Round and Round : #ReelFlySummer- #10, 43

Hi There,

I hope everyone’s doing fantastic. I wanted to start out by sharing some wise words I heard this week. You need to resign to the awkwardness of life. I’d say this is pretty solid advice. The more awkward, the better…right?

This weeks #ReelFlySummer adventures are built around the theme of activities that make you spin in circles…not squares…circles.

#43 Sit on Top of a Ferris Wheel

I think we can all agree Ferris Wheels are rather exciting. Especially when they’re assembled by one man at your local fair. I can assure you a wobbly Ferris Wheel is somewhat safe. The Ferris Wheel we went on was at our local fair set up for Canada Day. We waited in line for a lengthy period of time and even had a scare when the clock ticked to 10 pm (closing time) and we hadn’t gone on yet! But just then and there, magic happened. Just as we sat our tushes on the Ferris Wheel seats, the fireworks began. So there we were, shaking and trying to balance our weight on the Ferris Wheel, while watching fireworks closer to the sky…beautiful.

VERDICT: Feel free to push people out the way to get onto a Ferris Wheel at the perfect time (KIDDING!).

#10 Teach One Another the Art of Rollerblading and Biking

As embarrassing as it is, I am ready to admit that I never learned how to ride a bike until high school. A buddy of mine so kindly took on the task. However, turns and rocky pavement never became my friends. Meanwhile, my best friend is highly incapable of sports such as rollerblading and skating that require coordinated footing. So we decided to do a switcheroo. It was a whopping success.

VERDICT: Refrain from going on this wild adventure around sunset unless you’re perfectly okay with having your blood continuously sucked by pesty creatures.

Up, Up & Away False Alarm: #ReelFlySummer – #26, 44

Hello Hello,

How’s the weather treating you wherever you are in the world? Over in my corner it is very evident that mother nature has a vendetta against this nation. On another note, I’m going to give one last plea for you mystical creatures to take 30 seconds and vote for me in an online contest I’ve entered. The winner becomes Fruttare Canada’s guest blogger, and gets to travel to various music festivals across Canada and blog about them for the world. Voting takes about 30 seconds and three clicks. Click here, like the Fruttare Canada Facebook page, and finally click shout out beside my picture. You can also leave a lovey dovey comment if you wish to do so. Here’s the link again:

This week, one item in particular really required me to use some persuasion tactics on my partner in crime.

#26 Take a Field Trip to the Airport

Weird, huh? Although I absolutely hate flying, I’m rather fond of airports and the concept of travelling in general. So, after several efforts, I finally convinced my partner that we needed to have a ‘chill’ session at the airport. Her response the first 10 times, and the question on all your minds is why? Well, basically, I get a kick out of watching people’s behaviour at airports. There’s always that one father that’s just overly angry, and that one child that demands to carry their own suitcase, only to drop it 15 times. Yup, I get a kick out of that.

Initially, we made a decent effort to convince our friends we were going on a spontaneous trip via SnapChat. You’ll have to ask them whether we succeeded. For the duration of the day, we wandered the airport, terminal to terminal, making use of the handy dandy terminal link bus. We went on a hunt for lemonades (you’ll know why in the near future, hint: #ReelFlySummer), and sat on a variety of benches, stools, and couches. You can see a video from our trip below filled with 100% wrongful information, right down to our Hangover II movie knowledge.

When we finally decided we had seen enough, we took the terminal link bus to the distant discount parking garage where we had parked our car. We couldn’t help but notice a very modern hotel right next to the garage that was practically begging us to go in and pretend we were guests. We discovered that each floor had a designated colour theme. How’d we know this? Well, likely because we traveled to each floor and made bets on what colour we’d see when the elevator doors swung open. Things got a tad awkward when a hotel visitor joined us for the ride. The lobby of the hotel was fully equipped with Apple computers, a swing chair from the ceiling, and a rocking chair. My partner exclaimed: “this is legit exactly how I want my future house to look”.

VERDICT: The Toronto Pearson Airport is a must-see Toronto attraction as stated by reputable individuals (aka me). Skip the lemonade as it’s overpriced and simply tastes like it’s made from a frozen can. Go on a hunt for the swing chair…it’s definitely worth it.

#44 Learn to French Braid

We’re quite capable of doing a standard braid and a fancy shmanzy fishtail braid, but the french braid is one which we have struggled with for years. The level of struggle, especially for my partner, can metaphorically be compared to that of a person climbing Mount Everest. No really.

We decided to turn to our trusted friend Lauren Conrad and learn her french braiding ways using this tutorial. I understood the technique rather quickly, and was able to create somewhat of a braid on my friend’s impeccably short cut (she’s currently channeling a Bradley Cooper inspired do). She, however, managed to create something equivalent to a squirrel’s tail the first four times.

VERDICT: Lauren Conrad must have magical powers if she’s able to do such a complex art without looking. Well you know what Ms. Conrad, I bet you can’t pull off a standard 80’s hairdo. Oh wait…

More to come soon!

2 Broke Girls Cupcake Delivery: #ReelFlySummer – #29, #36

I hope all has been well and good and that you have began fully utilizing the #ReelFlySummer hashtag. Before I say another word I must ask all my lovely readers to please take 30 seconds and vote for me in an online contest I’ve entered to win the prize of becoming Fruttare Canada’s guest blogger. In this role I would travel to music festivals across Canada and document my experiences for Fruttare. I know what you’re thinking, isn’t that already what you do now? The answer is yes, and that’s why I feel that the position would be a great fit for me. However, I need some votes, that’s where you come into the picture. It only takes about 30 seconds and three clicks to vote. Click here, like the Fruttare Canada Facebook page, and finally click shout out beside my picture. You can also leave a lovey dovey comment if you wish to do so. Here’s the link again:

So this week on the #ReelFlySummer tour the game plan was to get around to completing four items; however, things didn’t go exactly as planned.

#36 Make Cupcakes ‘2 Broke Girls’ Style

My best friend and I have been obsessed with three sitcoms this past year; New Girl, The Mindy Project, and 2 Broke Girls. You will probably hear us make references to these shows at least once a night. To summarize 2 Broke Girls, pretty much there are two girls that are broke but have a dream of opening a successful cupcake shop. So as any true fan would do, we set out to make cupcakes too.

We opted to make a simple vanilla cupcake with Nutella frosting and another with a cookie dough centre and the same Nutella frosting. I wish I could provide you with a recipe but it was derived from three different sources in an effort to make them “healthy”. You’re welcome to leave a comment below if you’re really curious. But in all honesty, the cupcakes had no butter and only needed just a small amount of olive oil. We also used whole wheat flour and fat free whipped cream for the frosting…so it was practically equivalent to eating some spinach.

Due to a series of unfortunate events, in particular an event where I mistook a four cup measurement for a one cup measurement of milk, we had to make a lot of extra batter. The idea immediately struck to make surprise cupcake deliveries to our peers.

VERDICT: The general consensus was an A+ for a cupcake that is somewhat healthy…or at least that’s the story I’m sticking to. This is also a foolproof method to get your friends smiling. Give it a go.

#29 Make a Burn Book

Our inner Regina George must have come out to play when we added this item to the list. Nonetheless, after a lengthy debate on how we should go about doing this, while minimizing the meanness factor, we finally created somewhat of a burn book. I can’t tell you anything more, other than the fact that Nicki Minaj has a coveted page in the book. And no, we didn’t wear pink while making the book because it was not a Wednesday.

VERDICT: Generally speaking, my hair is really big because it’s full of secrets. Think of the burn book as a journal. It really does make you feel better, just be sure to keep it to yourself unless you want Ms. Norbury saying she’s disappointed in you.

This week’s going to be an exciting one. Any guesses?
