Going Round and Round : #ReelFlySummer- #10, 43

Hi There,

I hope everyone’s doing fantastic. I wanted to start out by sharing some wise words I heard this week. You need to resign to the awkwardness of life. I’d say this is pretty solid advice. The more awkward, the better…right?

This weeks #ReelFlySummer adventures are built around the theme of activities that make you spin in circles…not squares…circles.

#43 Sit on Top of a Ferris Wheel

I think we can all agree Ferris Wheels are rather exciting. Especially when they’re assembled by one man at your local fair. I can assure you a wobbly Ferris Wheel is somewhat safe. The Ferris Wheel we went on was at our local fair set up for Canada Day. We waited in line for a lengthy period of time and even had a scare when the clock ticked to 10 pm (closing time) and we hadn’t gone on yet! But just then and there, magic happened. Just as we sat our tushes on the Ferris Wheel seats, the fireworks began. So there we were, shaking and trying to balance our weight on the Ferris Wheel, while watching fireworks closer to the sky…beautiful.

VERDICT: Feel free to push people out the way to get onto a Ferris Wheel at the perfect time (KIDDING!).

#10 Teach One Another the Art of Rollerblading and Biking

As embarrassing as it is, I am ready to admit that I never learned how to ride a bike until high school. A buddy of mine so kindly took on the task. However, turns and rocky pavement never became my friends. Meanwhile, my best friend is highly incapable of sports such as rollerblading and skating that require coordinated footing. So we decided to do a switcheroo. It was a whopping success.

VERDICT: Refrain from going on this wild adventure around sunset unless you’re perfectly okay with having your blood continuously sucked by pesty creatures.

2 Broke Girls Cupcake Delivery: #ReelFlySummer – #29, #36

Greetings,

I hope all has been well and good and that you have began fully utilizing the #ReelFlySummer hashtag. Before I say another word I must ask all my lovely readers to please take 30 seconds and vote for me in an online contest I’ve entered to win the prize of becoming Fruttare Canada’s guest blogger. In this role I would travel to music festivals across Canada and document my experiences for Fruttare. I know what you’re thinking, isn’t that already what you do now? The answer is yes, and that’s why I feel that the position would be a great fit for me. However, I need some votes, that’s where you come into the picture. It only takes about 30 seconds and three clicks to vote. Click here, like the Fruttare Canada Facebook page, and finally click shout out beside my picture. You can also leave a lovey dovey comment if you wish to do so. Here’s the link again: http://bit.ly/10jDL9x.

So this week on the #ReelFlySummer tour the game plan was to get around to completing four items; however, things didn’t go exactly as planned.

#36 Make Cupcakes ‘2 Broke Girls’ Style

My best friend and I have been obsessed with three sitcoms this past year; New Girl, The Mindy Project, and 2 Broke Girls. You will probably hear us make references to these shows at least once a night. To summarize 2 Broke Girls, pretty much there are two girls that are broke but have a dream of opening a successful cupcake shop. So as any true fan would do, we set out to make cupcakes too.

We opted to make a simple vanilla cupcake with Nutella frosting and another with a cookie dough centre and the same Nutella frosting. I wish I could provide you with a recipe but it was derived from three different sources in an effort to make them “healthy”. You’re welcome to leave a comment below if you’re really curious. But in all honesty, the cupcakes had no butter and only needed just a small amount of olive oil. We also used whole wheat flour and fat free whipped cream for the frosting…so it was practically equivalent to eating some spinach.

Due to a series of unfortunate events, in particular an event where I mistook a four cup measurement for a one cup measurement of milk, we had to make a lot of extra batter. The idea immediately struck to make surprise cupcake deliveries to our peers.

VERDICT: The general consensus was an A+ for a cupcake that is somewhat healthy…or at least that’s the story I’m sticking to. This is also a foolproof method to get your friends smiling. Give it a go.

#29 Make a Burn Book

Our inner Regina George must have come out to play when we added this item to the list. Nonetheless, after a lengthy debate on how we should go about doing this, while minimizing the meanness factor, we finally created somewhat of a burn book. I can’t tell you anything more, other than the fact that Nicki Minaj has a coveted page in the book. And no, we didn’t wear pink while making the book because it was not a Wednesday.

VERDICT: Generally speaking, my hair is really big because it’s full of secrets. Think of the burn book as a journal. It really does make you feel better, just be sure to keep it to yourself unless you want Ms. Norbury saying she’s disappointed in you.

Right on Target: #ReelFlySummer – #5, #19

Hello Hello,

So summer is well underway and here in Toronto we are finally starting to feel the heat. Thus, if mother nature is up to her regular tricks, it will be snowing again by tomorrow.

If you missed the last post, the #ReelFlySummer initiative has officially been launched. In summary, my best friend and I will shimmy our way through a list of items this summer that we’ve wanted to complete for a while now (fingers crossed). This week we managed to check off two items off the list.

#5 Target Shopping

For any US readers this one is going to seem extremely strange. Us Canadians were blessed with the arrival of Target and all its red & white glory beginning this year. It opened during school and I never had a chance to experience the extravaganza for myself; thus, it was about time I made the trip.

As expected everything was in fact red, white, and extremely clean. Regarding merchandise, the store pretty much carried the same variety and items that you’d find at your local Walmart. Just substitute the McDonald’s you’d find beside the cash with a luxe Starbucks.  Also like Walmart, Target as a price match guarantee so you can definitely expect to receive competitive prices.

Target was still bundles of fun and as expected both my best friend and I fell for the superstore trap and ended up making the strangest purchases. A blender for me, and jalapeno pretzels for her.

VERDICT: Target is a luxurious Walmart that is here to stay. Looking forward to seeing how they differentiate themselves further in the near future.

#19 Drake Hotel

For New Years my friends and I went through a lengthy debate about whether we should attend a soiree at Drake Hotel or Thompson. Thompson obviously took the prize. Since none of us had been, it was a must-visit.

While getting ready for the night my friends recklessly contacted me asking me what the dress code was like. For a few moments I did debate the idea of telling all the boys it was a ‘suit and tie’ kind of night. However, I prefer not to be eaten for dinner so I opted out. But in all honesty, I really didn’t know what the dress code was. My understanding was that the venue would be rather ‘hipster’ as they call it. This was shortly reinforced when what appeared to be a 1930’s edition of Tarzan the movie was playing on screens circulating the main floor.

Also as expected, the place was extremely strange. Drake had multiple floors and people crawling all over the place. I truly was having trouble envisioning the hotel aspect of the venue. The music was strictly rap and r&b, which we were not expecting, but who doesn’t love a little bit of Ciara and Snoop Lion. The ‘hot spot’ in Drake is the patio area upstairs, which we waited over 30 minutes to get to. Thus, it only made sense to pull a prank on those waiting to get up to the patio upon our departure. See for yourself below.

VERDICT: Nothing too special. Maximize fun factor by going in a large group.
