The Right Way to Celebrate a Birthday: #ReelFlySummer – #32, 35

Hello Hello,

Boy oh boy am I in trouble. I know there has been a lengthy wait since the last post but I promise #ReelFlySummer has continued to live on. Tons of items have been checked off; however, the corresponding posts have yet to be written. For insta-updates follow me on Instagram @FashionistaToGo. Some distance makes the heart grow fonder, so it’s all good.

On to the #ReelFlySummer item of the week. This post will be entirely dedicated to the spectacle I refer to as my birthday, which helped us check off the following items off our list:

#32 Take a Roadtrip

#35 Glamping

For my 20th birthday, only one thing was for sure. I wanted to surpass the level of laughter experienced at my 19th birthday, which can be read about here. The itinerary for this year included a two-night trip to Driftwood Cove Marine Resort in Port Severn, Ontario, which was essentially a cottage getaway. I rallied up six of my closest friends, tallying up our total to seven people.  We all met up at my base and took two cars.

From the multiple coolers, suitcases, and inflatable toys (meant for the water of course), we had zero space. As you may already know, in my world, packing light is merely a statement existing in the clouds. Upon completing a designated ritual as requested by my grandpa and grandma every time someone travels, my friends were finely freed from my household. We took some pictures and set off on our wild, barbaric adventure in the wild (aka at a cottage resort).

It took us just over two hours to get there because we made several stops for Popeyes and toilets. The first thing we did was get onto the canoes and paddle boats and go for a tour around the quiet lake. Although the entire resort was full, it seemed fairly empty because there were tons of facilities and only nine cottages. After making fun of each other’s life jackets for a solid 20 minutes, we set sail. We were by no means naturals. This may have been caused by our uncoordinated personas or simply because we were too busy taking pictures and vines of ourselves.

Our first barbecue was also not smooth sailing. The princesses of the group took care of making fries and managed to set off the fire alarm, while, the barbaric members of the group took on the grill. One third of the vegetables were fed to the inside of the grill…which is always good. After batting our eyelashes at our neighbours we managed to receive the guidance needed to get it together. We also managed to go through a bottle of tzatziki in about five minutes.

As the name of the cottage resort suggests, it houses a marina. Quiet resort, secluded docks, lot’s of parked boats, a bunch of rowdy girls…I’ll let you put that all together.

Dinner featured many wholesome, nutritional options such as nutella and crepes. Following dinner we managed to somehow start a fire. We sat around the fire, sang some Britney Spears tunes, roasted some smores, and swore we saw a moving figure with a flashlight indoors every five minutes.

The next day was a rainy mess. We took the canoes for a spin and ended up docking at a private resort, which we chose to use for none other than…a landscape for our photos. Unfortunately in this process, one of my friends lost a flip flop valued at 2$ (or 1$ if you consider the fact that she still had the right foot pair). After some synchronized digging, and no success, we left…shoe-less. Oh and as for the Five Phat Pharts nonsense…it’s simply nonsense.

Next up was a barbecue in the rain…not pretty. We also went for another round of good times at the docks. Three of us jumped right into the freezing cold water. The only optimistic words that we could squeeze out of our blue lips were “i’m seriously sweating” and “this is so relaxing”.

Sadly, rain meant no campfire, so we had to settle for making smores in the oven. We decided to take a drive around town around 10 pm. You could literally hear a pin drop on the ground. There were no lights anywhere, only trees and bushes. This was a scene right out of a horror movie. After driving around for a bit we found a bar about 45 minutes away that was lit up. We went inside and found four members of civilization. We played some pool and were off again. We ended the night with a sloppy game of twister.

We took full advantage of our time at Driftwood by packing our stuff in the car early morning and using the facilities for the rest of the day. We played a hardcore game of volleyball where 10% of the game was actually playing volleyball and 90% was chasing after the ball when it fell into the lake. We then started another fire, played would you rather, and reflected on the good times until about 5 pm. It’s been a ball Driftwood, thanks for putting up with us!

I’ll check in again soon y’all. Put on tons of sunscreen during these scorching days.
